Assessment Dr. Samoilov offers comprehensive,
culturally-sensitive bilingual assessment for Russian-adopted
children. Evaluation procedures include flexible use of
both standard and specialized psychological testing procedures,
thorough review of childs records, clinical observation,
interviews (in the childs primary language), and parent/teacher
interviews. Dr. Samoilovs Comprehensive Assessment
Procedure for Bilingual and Internationally Adopted Children
is designed in accordance with the Best Practices in Comprehensive
Evaluations of English Language Learners, and includes evaluation
of Cognitive Ability (verbal and nonverbal), Language Proficiency,
Achievement, and Adaptive Behavior.
Treatment Dr. Samoilov offers post-adoption clinical consultation
and treatment services to internationally adopted children
and families. Her treatment approach is carefully tailored
to meet each childs unique needs and is designed to
build upon the childs existing strengths. Her specialized
integrative approach relies on flexible combination of therapeutic
techniques and approaches, such as trauma-focused therapy,
cognitive-behavior therapy, play therapy, and attachment-focused
therapy. The goal of the work is to generalize childs
therapeutic gains to the constantly changing demands of
the real world and to provide families with support, validation
and guidance, as well as individualized, specific behavioral
tools.
