I am a Pennsylvania licensed psychologist,
currently in a private practice in Philadelphia. I received
my master's degree from St. Petersburg (Russia). I also
completed a postgraduate externship in a systemic family
therapy at the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center and a
two-year training in clinical hypnosis at the Milton H.
Erickson Institute of Philadelphia. I have almost twenty
years of broad-range professional experience working in
a variety of clinical settings with children and families,
helping them to overcome personal challenges. Among my special
interests is therapy with uprooted families and families
in transition. I contributed the chapter on family therapy
with émigré families from the former Soviet
Union to "Ethnicity and Family Therapy" (eds.
Monika McGoldrick, Joseph Jordano and John K. Pierce, 1996,
Guilford Press).
As a bilingual psychologist and a
family therapist familiar with the Russian orphanage system
and child rearing practices, I provide pre-adoption and
post-adoption services for parents and their adopted children
from Russia and the former Soviet republics. The following specific issues related to international
adoption are addressed:
Review of medical records
and developmental history
Developmental problems
Emotional and behavior
problems (attention deficit, attachment difficulties,
emotional trauma, depression and anxiety in children)
Help in understanding
cultural aspects of behavior vs. behavioral problems
Bilingual psychological
examination
Appropriate intervention
(parents consultation, children/family consultation and
therapy).
