Identifying and Addressing the Unique Learning and Social Needs of Internationally
Adopted Children in School

This session focuses on the unique learning and social needs of internationally adopted children in school.

The participants will learn about the common causes of school difficulties in international adoptees, the necessity of early assessment and identification of their educational needs, the strategies for obtaining proper placement, remedial services, and accommodations, the basics of monitoring of academic progress and social/emotional functioning of adopted children in school.

The session will address issues not only facing school-age internationally adopted children, but also pre-school aged kids.

In addition, Dr. Gindis will also be conducting short individual consultations throughout the Conference for interested attendees with specific questions.
