A: RW means Reaction of Wassermann (test for syphilis still in use in Russia, but outdated in this country). This is mostly a screening test for syphilis. It is known to produce "false positives", but is very good for discovering "true negatives". Negative means - no syphilis, while positive indicates only that antibodies are present and more testing is necessary. |
